Add More ‘Spring’ to Your Step with These Trends

Spring fashion look.It can be hard to prioritize ourselves to look and feel good as busy parents. And as our kids outgrow their clothes and need new gear, we often shop for them, perhaps ignoring our own needs. So spring is a great time to clean out your closet and add new trends to your wardrobe.

I recently got some experts to weigh in on the top trends this spring season. Whether you like to shop at the many great stores we have locally in Westchester, or if you’re more of an online shopper, there are plenty of ways to update your look.

Ask the Pros

Chappaqua-based image consultant, Shaari Cohen, shares that kelly green is a huge color for spring. She suggests, “It’s vibrant and happy and works on most people. You can always carry a kelly green purse as an accent if it feels too bold.” Head over to Tru Grace in Armonk for one of Shaari’s favorite kelly green dresses for spring by MONROW, or invest in this Karina Grimaldi dress from Revolve.

At Mixology in Scarsdale, store manager Jill Fodiman says this spring will bring lots of crochet pieces that would “make grandma’s needle fly right out of her hands.” Fishnet-inspired looks can be found in everything from matching sets to pants and skirts. Jill adds that fringe and ruffle accents bring additional flair to this look.

Leah Zwirn, a Westchester-based stylist and personal shopper, recommends that you “ditch the denim for a versatile spring trend – the trouser.” She likes this effortlessly cool look with a simple white tee, bodysuit, or silk top that can take you from the office to cocktails. Shop Zara near Greenwich, Norwalk, or West Nyack for an affordable version. Leah recommends this linen pair on NET-A-PORTER if you’re looking to splurge.

The store manager of Fado in Katonah, Meredith Rudin, can’t keep this season’s “comfortable yet cool” Billini Zante sandal in stock. She describes it as an upscale Birkenstock look that’s great for day or night and an affordable alternative to a similar Isabel Marant sandal.

Updates I’m Making

Here are some of the items I’m making sure I have to update my wardrobe as I return to work full-time, mainly from the comfort of my home.

A good white sneaker for warmer months reminds me of the enduring style of my childhood – Keds! But nowadays I prefer something a bit trendier. If your budget is moderate, try the Veja Esplar at Nordstrom. For a more luxe option, several versions of these Alexander McQueen oversized sneakers can be found at Neiman Marcus.

To instantly enhance your Zoom work wardrobe, stock up on colorful blazers. I recently scored this Cinq a Sept Khloe blazer in a watermelon color at my local TJMAXX. And this double-breasted textured pink blazer from Zara makes me feel like Elle Woods.

For the first time I can remember, there is no one style or cut of pants and denim that is “in.” Right now, anything goes from skinny to straight leg to wide leg. Therefore, it’s about finding what style and fit works best for you. I’m a fan of affordable denim brands like Just Black, Flying Monkey, and Pistola, many of which can be found at some of my favorite boutiques like Whim and Mixology. I haven’t tossed all of my skinnies, but I have scaled them down and added straight leg, flared, and cropped looks.
