Eating a well-balanced diet not only makes us feel better and more productive in the present day but it is also an important component in prevention. Chronic disease such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer are among the most common health problems in the United States. The good news is that many of these diseases are preventable with a healthy diet and lifestyle.

It is extremely important for women to focus on early detection. In addition, the following diet and lifestyle factors may play a role in Breast Cancer prevention:

  • Aim to include regular aerobic exercise on most days.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Refrain from tobacco use.
  • Limit alcohol consumption. Consume no more than 2 servings per day.
  • Focus on increasing fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Eat for COLOR and VARIETY!
  • Focus on healthful dietary fats such as olive oil, avocado, nuts, seeds, and fish that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids (salmon, mackerel, sardines and tuna).
  • Limit intake of red meat and processed meats (including bacon and packaged deli meats).
  • Include herbs and spices such as turmeric, garlic, ginger, black pepper, cayenne pepper and oregano.
