Hold On

hold onDo you ever feel as if the world is spinning around you and you can’t quite grasp the wheel long enough to hold on?

Whether it’s adjusting to the demands of motherhood or savoring the euphoria of finally holding your little one in your arms, mastering how to deal with tantrums or skipping through the apple orchard together singing a favorite tune, treading lightly as difficult topics arise with your teen or letting go ever so slightly of your college kid, being a mom often throws at us, on any given day, pure bliss and difficult challenges.

Dynamics are constantly shifting, as life ebbs and flows, while we try to remain steady and grounded. But some days, staying calm, stable, flexible, and patient is hard. Some days we need to hold on. But one thing I have come to realize along my journey of motherhood is this…on the difficult days, I am not alone, and I hope you recognize this as well as you travel along your journey of motherhood.

On the days you can’t bear to get through another load of laundry or pick up another crumb off of the floor, hold on.

On the days you feel judged for how you choose to feed your newborn, breastfeed or bottle-feed, hold on.

On the days you feel inadequate and compare yourself as a mom to the hard to attain expectations society has placed on moms, hold on.

On the days too many messy handprints cover the walls, hold on.

On the days nap time can’t come soon enough to soothe yourself with a cup of coffee, hold on.

On the days arguments spark, over and over again, when all you are seeking is a day of peace, hold on.

On the days no one is in sync with each other and life feels like dominos falling all around, hold on.

On the days you receive more eye rolls and sighs just for breathing and being present, hold on.

On the days you wish for a simple yet quiet moment, know you are not the only mama hiding in the closet or car for respite.

On the days you feel a disconnect to the outside world but know the lineup for kids television or the latest TikToks, hold on.

On the days you sit, side by side, with your little one, coloring your self-portrait, be confident your messy bun and wrinkled tee is rockin’ it, and hold on.

On the days bath time is the only moment filled with giggles and pure delight, then fill up the tub again for round two, enjoy, and hold on.

On the days leaving the house is a chore, and staying home on the couch sounds delightful; follow your heart, let go of the demands you place on yourself and hold on.

On the days you feel ignored, and kids are coming and going with their growing independence, hold on.

On the days you question every ounce of your worth, take a deep breath knowing you are not alone on this journey, and hold on.

You got this!

You are strong.

You are amazing.

You are gentle.

You are rooted in grace.

You, mama, are a gift. Hold on.
