December is the most magical month of the year, full of family and tradition. And what better way to celebrate than to visit Westchester County Mom sponsor, New York Botanical Garden. This iconic living museum is one of the greatest botanical gardens in the world. Not only is it beautiful, but there is so much to do and see with the whole family.
When we entered the gates, we headed straight for the Pine Tree Cafe to grab some pastries, coffee, and hot chocolate before we mapped out our day. Our tickets for the Holiday Train Show were for 12:15 p.m., so we had over two hours to explore. Our first stop was the Children’s Adventure Garden.
With both indoor and outdoor activities, my three little ones could explore various plants, insects, cones, and branches. Inquiry learning is encouraged, so many hands-on activities were set up, along with knowledgeable staff to help engage the kids. We also explored a few trails and a large herb garden.
Then we were off to get in line for The Holiday Train Show. This is a breathtaking exhibition featuring many model trains that travel through a display of 150 landmarks, such as the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, and the Rockefeller Center. This year, the exhibition showcases Midtown Manhattan. Each display is created with bark, leaves, and various other natural materials.
Make sure to visit and make this one of your family’s holiday traditions! We can’t wait to go back!
