Smile! It’s Selfie Day!

It seems like there is a day to celebrate everything these days, from National Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19) to National Single Parent Day (March 21). Some of these days seem a little more bizarre than others but most of them are either great for awareness or good old-fashioned fun. One day, I can totally get behind is National Selfie Day on June 21. The selfie phenomenon has exploded in the past few years and why not, it’s a great way to memorialize the good, the bad, and the ugly moments in our lives.

Some of the amazing writers here at the Westchester County Mom’s Blog decided to share a little glimpse into their daily lives with some selfies of their own. Some will make you laugh, others will have you saying awwwww… and some, well some speak for themselves!

I’ll start with myself. Aside from my full time teaching job, writing for the blog and being a single mama of two awesome girls, I also am a troop leader for not one, but two girl scout troops (yes, I may be insane). I don’t think I fully understood what 38 cases of cookies looked like, so I had to share the moment with the other moms in my troop!

Then there are the selfies, that aren’t really selfies because, well, our kids. Either we want them in the pic because we just can’t get enough (like me here at the Bronx Zoo with my two girlies)…

…Or, they take our phone and we come back to find a burst of 75 pictures of our little one’s big toe (yes, I am speaking from experience). Blog Mom, Isabel, knows exactly what I am talking about! Here is a screen shot of her 4 year old’s latest selfie escapades, when she decided to be extra fancy and try some black and white selfies!

I also love this selfie Isabel took and then realized she was being photo-bombed by someone else who just had to get a selfie in the same spot!

Lelia submitted this selfie, or what started as a selfie, but wound up being an “usie” too!

Meanwhile, Melissa shared a selfie of her and her son at the stadium having some silly fun.

Michelle shared a picture of herself and her mini-me and also sent one of herself and her fur baby (is he trying to tell her something?).

Let’s meet some other blog moms!  Here are some selfies from Keveney and Joni. Both Blog Moms sent me multiple selfies to show the many sides of themselves! Including the “why do I need to be at the gym face” and the classic windy hair fail!

Angela also sent in a hysterical selfie of the time she tried teeth whitening, and even though she still isn’t sure why she snapped a selfie, it gave me a chuckle.

And I just have to share the story behind Angela’s selfie. Angela shared this picture with me and said that she had just found out she was having a baby before leaving for a European business trip. She knew she had to commemorate her little one’s first “trip” abroad, but how? Her cute mom solution? Angela bought this elephant toy and took it everywhere she went, snapping selfies of her and her bundle-of-joy to be. So cute right?

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and smile! It’s selfie day! Don’t forget to share your very favorite selfies (or even those super funny fails) with us!

A long time passion for working with children led Kristen to pursue a career in education and she has been an elementary school teacher in the Bronx for over a decade. Her teaching career has taught her that every day is a new experience and to "expect the unexpected." If she can find any spare time between teaching and motherhood, Kristen likes to read, binge watch horrible romantic comedies on TV, bake, and go on road trips with her girls.
