Is it bedtime yet?! Have you ever had one of those days where you have asked yourself this (more than once), and you are counting down the seconds until bedtime? I know I do! I even have the nights where I think to myself how thankful I am that my children cannot yet tell time, and I can make bedtime an hour earlier if I need to!
Do you know what this tells me? I need a break and to practice some self-care because if I don’t, I may lose it. And the last thing anyone needs is mom’s mental health to go out the window!
So, I figure I need to make a little time for myself to do whatever brings me happiness outside being a mom.
Dinner with friends? Binge watch a new show? Walk around Target ALONE? Throw in a glass of Rosé, and this all sounds like the perfect “me time!”
As moms, we facilitate everyone in the family’s happiness. We schedule all the fun stuff for everyone in the family; parties, play dates, camps, etc., and never afford ourselves the same luxuries. Why is that? Well, because we have mom guilt!
Being the center of everyone in the family’s universe is a double-edged sword! Being a mom is truly the greatest blessing one can experience, but it is also the most stressful and exhausting thing someone can do daily.
If you hope to survive motherhood with any sense of sanity, then you need to be sure to care for yourself.
We all need to start to embrace the guilt so we can move on from it. Remember, making time for yourself/practicing self-care is a win for your family too.
Happy moms are equally as important as happy children.
