The Parent Collective (TPC) offers a new style of judgment-free prenatal and parenting classes, where evidence-based information is delivered in an open discussion format, designed to provide guidance and establish connections among couples living in close proximity and due at the same time. TPC was designed by two Westport, CT moms, after they had their children in the UK and attended British prenatal classes. Having successfully launched a prenatal class series in Fairfield County, CT back in 2016, they have since expanded the classes into NYC, Long Island, and New Jersey.

This Summer I had the exciting opportunity and privilege to expand TPC into Westchester. Having recently become a parent myself I longed for the ability to build a lasting network of friendships both for myself and my children. However, it wasn’t until I was six months postpartum that I really started attending mommy and me groups. Those first six months were incredibly isolating so the thought of creating friendships before the babies were even born through a childbirth education series, similar to those in the UK, sounded amazing. When I learned about The Parent Collective, I thought to myself that I must bring this network to Westchester to help other parents-to-be.

TPC Prenatal Classes

Our prenatal classes are designed to provide unbiased information, foster open discussion, and establish friendships among expectant parents who live local to one another and are due at the same time. Our hope is that participants taking our classes will cultivate a social network through weekly participation, forge robust prenatal/parental support systems, and of course, gather playmates for little ones along the way.

The courses, taught by highly trained nurses and midwives, will cover labor and delivery, relaxation techniques and pain management, breastfeeding and bottle-feeding, and newborn care for expectant parents. TPC classes run weekly for 4 weeks, 2 hours per session and cater to small groups, designed for in-depth and relaxed discussion, where no question is out of bounds. Classes are best taken in the third trimester, ideally completing before 36 weeks of pregnancy.

New Westchester Classes

Postpartum Support Classes

In other exciting TPC news, we are currently working towards getting our Postpartum Support classes running here in Westchester. These weekly classes will also be taught by highly trained nurses and midwives. Not only do we hope that it will bring more new parents together at this important, and sometimes quite isolating time, but we hope to be able to continue to provide the much needed support.

Online Prenatal Classes

Lastly, we have just launched our online prenatal classes which cover the same topics but are aimed for those who are unable to attend classes or are looking for a brush-up on ‘what to expect’ with baby # 2, 3… These can be taken in the comfort of your own home, at a time convenient for you.

It’s hard to make friends as adults. With pregnancy as the common thread, it can sometimes be easier. Mom friends at every stage of the motherhood journey are super helpful, but friends who have kids the same age as yours are super essential. We feel that navigating the unknown of the first few months with a friend in the same boat is invaluable. Many of these friends become lifelong friends. Many of these friendships formed, become lifelong, hence the benefit of The Parent Collective.
