Meet Mandy: Something in Common

0

I have been many things in life, but most recently I am a mother to a vivacious three-year-old boy and a loud barking rescue dog. I am a wife of seven years. I am a stay-at-home mother but also an entrepreneur and small business owner during naptime. I am a new homeowner, a horrible gardener, and surprisingly, a person who is excited by a fence permit. I am an avid online shopper; Prime Member and a Trader Joes convert. I am a toddler art teacher, creative thinker, dreamer, and lover of the arts.

Taking a step back, I moved to Westchester after living out my twenties and thirties in New York City. I was a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology, an event planner for fifteen years, and an Upper East Sider turned Astorian. I was an apartment dweller, an online dater, and a busy single gal in the city. I was also a bit lonely and depressed, thanks to my lifelong friend – anxiety.

There are a few unofficial ‘clubs’ I am in. I am a curly haired brunette, I am short, I am Italian American. I wear glasses, I barely wear makeup and I never leave home without Chapstick. I am extremely detail-oriented, a bit OCD, and an aspiring minimalist. I am a red wine drinker, snack lover, and 30 year-long vegetarian.

Finally, I am what doctors refer to as a geriatric mother and had my son at 40. I am an IVF success story after a long and winding road. I am a mother to 1 in 700 children born with a cleft lip. I am happy. I am kind, considerate, and a good friend. I believe that life is a gift and I try daily not to take it for granted.

Perhaps we have something in common?
