The Memes and Tweets of 2020

0

2020 has been some year. And the fact that we still have a few months to go seems unreal. How much more “2020” can we take? Besides COVID-19 itself, there are all the things that have accompanied it – school closings, working from home, quarantine, job losses, social distancing, and more.

We’re living with constant political divisiveness and an upcoming Presidential election.  There are continued social injustices, the postponement of the Summer Olympics, and severe weather occurrences, including intense storms here in the northeast that knocked out cable, internet, and power for days – having a major effect on our new normal of working from home. Heck, and a friend just posted a picture of a bat in her house. If that isn’t the epitome of 2020, I don’t know what is!

At the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, I told a friend that the memes and tweets were going to help me get through this. The tough times had to be met with a little levity. These COVID-19 days are no joke, so I’m sorta going with that “gotta laugh, not to cry” approach.

By no means does this diminish any of the hardships that hit – I was furloughed myself back in the spring and the unknowns during that time were unnerving. And I know that is minor compared to the situations others experienced. But along the way, the puns and irony posted on social media brought a bunch of much needed and well-deserved giggles and chuckles.

Here are some of my faves:
