Although it was freezing outside, our hearts were certainly warmed by Westchester’s Winter Wonderland, at Kensico Dam Plaza. It was our first time attending and opening night seemed like the perfect time to go, especially since my parents were in town. We invited our friends to meet us and they came bundled up and ready for some holiday fun! I was surprised to see so many adorable rides for the kids, and they were all included in the admission price, which was wonderful!

We decided to pay a visit to Santa’s Workshop first and the kids were so excited to see the big guy (p.s. he was a GREAT Santa and again, pictures are included with admission)! Rides were next and the favorites, for my 3 year old and her little buddy, were the dragon ride and big slide. They could not have been happier and really did not care that it was 25 degrees!

We visited the circus tent and the kids and adults alike were in awe! The tightrope walkers and aerial silks were definitely our top picks for best performance. The circus show ended right in time to make it back outside for the big tree lighting. Right behind the tree is an ice skating rink, which we would love to go back and try sans toddlers!

We had worked up quite an appetite so decided to visit the food tent filled with so much delicious food! The Winter Wonderland also features food trucks and fun carnival-like food stands (think funnel cakes and fried oreos). We loved this event for an affordable family outing. The beautiful lights and holiday-themed activities make it a perfect activity to get into the holiday spirit and spread some cheer. So pack your hats and gloves and head over to Kensico Dam to check it out! You won’t want to miss the fun!

Janine Nyquist
Janine is a stay at home mom of four, two on earth and twins in Heaven. She grew up in Stratford, CT and now lives in Port Chester, NY. After graduating from culinary school in 2010, she went on to be an executive pastry chef, a cake designer, then a corporate sous chef in NYC. Janine started her journey to becoming a Mom following her 2012 wedding. After struggles with infertility, she and her husband turned to IVF and were blessed with identical twins. Her twin boys grew wings on 6/26/14, after being born severely premature. Overcoming the darkness of infant loss and finding a new normal were very trying. Janine and her husband welcomed a rainbow baby in August of 2015, who’s name means “pure light.” Their daughter brought so much joy and light back into their world. In November of 2017, their second rainbow and miracle, a boy, was born. Janine works very diligently, as a mother of angels, to make sure her boys are always remembered. She is a facilitator for Hope After Loss, a support group in CT for grieving parents, and honors her boys every day in special ways. Janine loves to do yoga, cook for her family (homemade baby food and all), drink wine, and is always up for a cup of coffee. She is also in the beginning phase of co-authoring a baby cookbook with a dear childhood friend, and creates custom cakes and cupcakes for special occasions. Her sweet creations can be seen on her website www.neaniecakes.com.
