The Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley provides families with critically ill and traumatically injured children an atmosphere of comfort, hope and courage. This keeps them close to the care and resources they need. The House has 12 bedrooms that are filled to capacity almost every night. They also provide meals, laundry and respite services for families during their stay. Located on the campus of the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY, the House is just steps away from the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. Since it opened in 2011, more than 1,600 families have called their House a Home.

Thanks to the generosity of many supporters, families are provided with a low-cost, safe and comfortable home-like setting with the convenience of being steps away from their hospitalized child. Their staff and volunteers provide comfort and support to their families during the most difficult time of their lives. Their relationship with McDonald’s has been foundational since the inception of the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

On March 20th, both individuals and organizations were honored for their dedication and contributions to the House. It was a beautiful night and we reflected on the impact of this Ronald McDonald House, inspiring us all to join in their efforts. From providing meals to volunteering and paying it forward, these individuals have gone above and beyond to make this House and Home for the families served. It was an evening of fun, fellowship, and generosity.

“In the story of the Red Shoes, by Hans Christian Andersen, a young girl, devoured with an ambition, wears a pair of red shoes which are tireless, vigorous and have endless energy.”

The Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, and they are thankful to McDonald’s for being one of their largest corporate donors. More than 30% of their annual operating costs are graciously funded by Ronald McDonald House Charities, McDonald’s Corporation, and owner/operators of local McDonald’s restaurants. The remainder of the annual operating income comes from the generosity of individual and corporate donors.

Leah
Leah lived in New York City for most of her life and moved to Westchester County in 2011 to blend and extend her family with an adorable high school Math teacher she met on Match.com. After 7 years of staying home and working part-time, she is back to the full time grind, commuting to the Bronx daily in her minivan a.k.a. trusty mommy wagon (this city girl’s first and only car). This full-time working, part-time blogging mother-of-4 seems to have it all together to the observer. In fact, part of this illusion is truly having the most amazingly resilient children a mother could ask for. Leah is an overthinking, jam pack the agenda, let loose when no one’s watching, be kind to your neighbor, sanity don’t fail me now kind of soul and she loves being a part of Westchester County Moms Blog. She strives to keep her kids super busy with a wide variety and good balance of academic, social, and athletic activities while desperately managing her home and budget.
