Westchester’s Winter Wonderland: Holiday Carnival Fun for the Whole Family

0

While winter weather might be my least favorite of the seasons, I still love this time of year. It’s all about celebrating the magic of the holidays. From tree lightings, to ice skating, to hot cocoa on a cold day, there is so much you can do to appreciate the beauty of Winter. Thanks to Westchester County Moms Blog sponsor, Westchester Parks Foundation, my family was able to kickoff the season with an evening at Westchester’s Winter Wonderland.

Westchester’s Winter Wonderland has returned for it’s fourth season and you’ll certainly want to embrace the chilly weather for this family-friendly winter carnival. Dress warmly and head over to Kensico Dam Plaza for this local holiday attraction. Winter Wonderland features music, lights, a holiday circus, delicious food trucks, rides, ice skating, and more.

Tickets

The price of admission is $15 (children under 3 years of age are free) and this includes unlimited admission to most attractions. Tickets are available at the entrance, but can also be purchased online. Tickets can be used for any one day this season. It will run until December 31st. The festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. (1 hour after the park closes to the public). Sunday thru Thursday attractions end at 9:00 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays the end a little later at 10:00 p.m. Free parking is available on site.

Carnival Rides

Included with admission are three holiday rides: the Holly Jolly Caterpillar, the Wonderland Express, and the Winter Hay Ride. I must say that for my youngest daughters, their favorite attractions of the night were the carnival rides, which they were able to get on multiple times. The holiday circus comes in at a close second. Pony rides, camel rides, and the fun slide are available for an additional fee.

A Visit to Santa

Santa’s Workshop is located in one of the park’s heated tents. Guests are free to take their own pictures with Santa and see Santa’s elves hard at work (there are no photo packages to be purchased).

Ice Skating

Our older kids loved ice skating and probably could have stayed on the ice the whole evening. Ice skating is included with admission (skate rentals are free).

Dining

Take your pick of the best food trucks in Westchester County, and warm up inside the heated dining tent and enjoy your dinner. There are also carnival classics available like popcorn and fried dough, as well as the seasonal favorite apple cider donuts.

Celebrating the Magic

The holidays are all about the memories we create. The tree, the music, the light shows, and the decorative displays capture everything we love about this time of year — the magic. The time spent with family and friends during the holidays make for lasting memories and the beginning (or continuation) of traditions.

Leah lived in New York City for most of her life and moved to Westchester County in 2011 to blend and extend her family with an adorable high school Math teacher she met on Match.com. After 7 years of staying home and working part-time, she is back to the full time grind, commuting to the Bronx daily in her minivan a.k.a. trusty mommy wagon (this city girl’s first and only car). This full-time working, part-time blogging mother-of-4 seems to have it all together to the observer. In fact, part of this illusion is truly having the most amazingly resilient children a mother could ask for. Leah is an overthinking, jam pack the agenda, let loose when no one’s watching, be kind to your neighbor, sanity don’t fail me now kind of soul and she loves being a part of Westchester County Moms Blog. She strives to keep her kids super busy with a wide variety and good balance of academic, social, and athletic activities while desperately managing her home and budget.
